In addition to performing, composing and producing Paul Weiling gives private saxophone lessons and workshops in Amsterdam and works as a professor at the Academy of Music and Performing Arts (AMPA), jazz department of the Tilburg Conservatory.

During his lengthy carreer as a teacher, Paul developed his own improvisation method based on solo transcription and analysis, motivic development and a compact, highly practical harmonic and rhythmic theory concept. His teaching program includes the following lessons and workshops: INDIVIDUAL SAXOPHONE LESSONS A complete range of saxophone techniques, interpretation, improvisation, style and analysis, solo transcription, musical interaction, presentation and personal attidude. INDIVIDUAL IMPROVISATION LESSONS For classical trained musicians and all melody instuments. Includes the same topics as for the saxophone lessons, without the basic saxophone techniques. DUO WORKSHOP Playing without rhythm section, taking over the roles of the “missing” instruments, creating musical interaction and concept, striking the balance between arranging and improvising. BAND COACHING Creative playing and communication with and within the rhythm section, creating musical interaction and concept, striking the balance between arranging and improvising. METHODIC LESSONS FOR SAXOPHONE TEACHING Exploring saxophone and improvisation teaching methods, developing a complete nine year saxophone course, starting with the very first lessons with a young student. PERSONAL COACHING FOR PROFESSIONAL MUSICIANSHIP Self-reflection, performing presentation (video analysis), work ethics and attitude, business skills and carreer planning, networking, marketing and public relations. |
